New Characters:

* Lechero - rules over Sona. After riots the previous year, Sona was left without guards. Lechero rose over the others and has better living conditions than the other inmates. Mahone, Michael, and another newbie, get to know Lechero and Sona when he explains how things work in the prison.
* Sapo - suffers bad treatment with Bellick.
* McGrady - 16-year-old Panamanian kid, in prison. He wears a basketball jersey with McGrady on the back, hence the nickname. He latches on to Michael as he is fascinated with all things American.
* A wrongfully imprisoned fisherman and his beautiful girlfriend.
* Betty Crocker - a female operative for a government conspiracy group.

Plot Spoilers
* Bellick is now a Sona inmate. He is having a hard time with some other inmates who make him drink in a puddle when he says he is thirsty. He befriends Sapo. The bad guys keep “torturing” Sapo and Bellick. When they go to the mess, they are told they cannot eat. So where will they ever find food?
* At Sona, Michael meets with McGrady to get info on the whereabouts of a man named James Whistler. The man was arrested for having killed the Mayor’s son during a bar fight. While Michael learns that everyone is looking for him and that the man may even have escaped, Mahone hides and watches. Later, Mahone learns from McGrady that whoever finds Whistler and kills him is as good as a free man.
* Lincoln goes to a bar in a high rise restaurant. He is set to meet someone there. He sits at the bar and orders water. Betty Crockers sits besides him and starts talking to him. He doesn’t know her, but she does know him and Michael. As they talk, he clearly tells her it is the wrong time and he is waiting for someone. But she presses on and eventually says that it is the right time “ Lincoln” and “We have a lot to discuss. Specifically your brother.” She then gives him an iPod. It is not clear what/who Betty is exactly but she seems to be an agent of some sort. Question is for which side is she working for?
* Executive producer Paul Scheuring says: Sona Penitentiary is the antithesis of Fox River. Five minutes into the new season, Micheal will virtually be pining for the sanity and safety of Fox River. And, of course, there’s a little matter of the secret concealed in the crawl space beneath the A wing…

But Lechero knows what a prison, especially Sona, without water can be like and tells him he needs it now. * Mahone will not enjoy his stay at Sona and one of the reasons is the lack of meds. You can expect his tremors to come back to haunt him. He also gets a visit from the public defender assigned to his case, Paul Darinda. The latter tells his client that they have a trial date. Thing is, it is in a year! Darinda is not really interested in what Mahone has to say, which includes that Michael can testify that he set Mahone up. Darinda says that judges won’t fall for the “one inmate will take the blame for another” trick. He tries to convince Darinda to get meds for him as he can’t get those in Sona.
